Do I Need Stabilizing Strap For Bike Rack On Trailer Mate Hitch Receiver? Subaru Crosstrek
Published 08/18/2025 >
Question:
Do I need stabilizing straps with this hitch if I’m running a 2-bike rack? I'm using a Kuat carrier

Henry, no you do not. For some of the class 1 receivers with the smaller 1-1/4" opening, Curt recommends a strap to keep the load steadier and reduce stress on the hitch. But for most 2" receivers, including the Trailer Mate # TMT94FR, you do not need anything at all. Just make sure you don't exceed the 150lb limit of tongue weight (downward force on the hitch). What year is your Crosstrek? This hitch fits 2018-2026.
For other cyclists, does your rack feel more solid with a strap, or have you gotten by without?
