Can Wires of Curt Spectrum be Moved/Unplugged Once Installed

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 08/16/2025

Question:

Hello, I am installing a Curt Spectrum in my 2015 GMC Acadia with factory tow package. I have bot the Curt Spectrum and the custom Curt 51422 harness adapter plug for my vehicle. I would like to install using the double sided tape method, especially for first time use, and make sure I am happy with the functionality of it before doing a permanent install requiring drilling. However, after looking at installation videos and reading the manual, in particular the way the wires are plugged into the jumper harness for the led display... Makes it seems once these wires are plugged in, they can no longer be unplugged, meaning it would not be possible to change how it is mounted. Is this correct, or can those wires be unplugged later and the mounting changed?

Hey Ruth, what you want to do will be perfectly fine to install the Curt Spectrum part # C84QV. The wires can definitely be moved again once the module or knob has been mounted so if you want to use double sided tape method to find out where you for sure want it that would be fine.

Hey Ruth, did you have a chance to try the double-sided tape method for your Curt Spectrum installation? I'm asking because your experience could help others who are considering a similar setup.
