How Can I Determine What Wheel Studs And Wheel Seals I Need For My Trailer
Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 08/11/2025 >
Question:
Hello, I have a trailer. The tags on the axles are gone. I am pretty confident they are 12,000 lb axles. I need wheel studs and a wheel seal for this thing. Is there another way to identify the correct ones?

Hey Gregory, thanks for reaching out. Without the axle tag that makes it more tricky. See if there is a part number on one of your hubs. I might be able to use that to determine the seal size and stud diameter. This would not be enough to tell me exact specs for the wheel studs, but it would help a lot to narrow things down.
Aside from that, the best way to determine what you need would be to pull a hub and remove one of the seals. There may be a number stamped on the edge but if you can't make that out you can always measure the OD and ID, or measure the part of the spindle where the seal rides. measuring the studs is more tricky since you would have to drive one out of the hub. We would need detailed measurements of the wheel stud like in the picture I included.
Get back to me with whatever info you have and I am happy to continue to assist and see if we have anything that will work for you.
