Is There Lower Height Version of Thule Overhaul HD Ladder Rack

Published 08/06/2025

Question:

I like the Overhaul HD, but I am concerned that it will be difficult for me to access the top of the rack wen its on top of my Ford F-150 to put things in a cargo box, put kayaks on and take them off, etc. Are there any solutions for that short of keeping a step ladder in the truck?

Hey Gino, I think I have just what you are looking for with the Yakima Outpost HD bed rack part # Y01152-5855. This is a mid height ladder rack that is only 13 inches tall so it's a lot easier to access the top of the bars like you were concerned about. This also has same bar length as what you mentioned and fits tonneau cover channels as well.

The Overhaul HD part # Y01151-5855 instead has an adjustable height range of 19-30 inches. Both could work well for you but I would determine what would be the max height you could work with and decide from there but let me know if you're still not sure which would be right for you.

Thanks for the reply. I need the Overhaul to get the crossbars above the roof of my truck so that I can load kayaks, ladders, and other long items that need to hang out over the front. And I'm looking for is some way to get up there other than climbing up and standing on top of the tire.

@GinoS We do have the Powerbuilt Adjustable Tire Step # ALL647596 which puts an easy to use and access step on the side of the wheel/tire. Would that work?
