Good question!

Can you close the hatch of the vehicle the CVT Timber Creek Annex # RG35ZV is attached to? Yes. However, it should be noted that the hatch is actually acting as a roof support, so some of the roof will not necessarily cave in, but it will not be supported and will be flappy (for the lack of a better way to put it). If you look at the attached picture, I circled what I mean in red.

If you are wanting something that can stand alone when you need to take your car somewhere and still have the tent be usable, I think one of the two options listed below would be better options.

Napier Sportz Dome-To-Go CUV Tent - 4 Person - 8-1/2' x 8-1/2' - Blue and Gray # NA79FR
Lets Go Aero ArcHaus Camping Tent and Clip-On Interior Screen Room - 10' Long x 6' Wide x 6-1/2' Tall # SAR024-031

Both of these can be left free standing, so the hatch would not need to be open for support. But they are more expensive.

Do you think you will be leaving the tent in place while taking the vehicle elsewhere a lot?

Thank you for your answer. Some little “tents” appear to be mostly summer bug screening that would be damaged if you closed the hatch. It would be nice to be able to close it if 4 or 2 legged creatures are disturbing your peace or if temperatures drop. Although I love the Napier Dome, I don’t think I want to wrestle with it on a windy day when I am traveling solo. The Timber Creek appears to be made out of quality material. I notice that it doesn’t have a rain fly, which for a shorter person is actually a plus, assuming it actually is pretty waterproof? How would you rate it?

@V CVT is one of our newer brands so I don't have any personal experience with it as of yet. However, I did some digging and it does look like people have had them out in pretty heavy rain and it kept water out very well. With seeing a few reviews with similar experiences, I would rate it pretty high!
