Updated 07/08/2025 | Published 07/04/2025

Question:

I have a 1996 ez loader trailer with surge brakes my wheel cylinders are shot but I cannot find any replacements. The thing is the brakes are 9in drums and 2 1/4in pads any idea what I can do without having to replace everything. Thanks

Hey Trent, thanks for reaching out!

Do you have a brand name and a part number for your brakes? I'm not seeing any that use 9" drums and 2-1/4" pads, but if you can let me know what you find in regards to a replacement wheel cylinder.

It'd be nice to avoid replacing everything, but that might end up being what we need to do depending on what you find out.

Hey jon the only thing I can find is a sticker on the backing plate that says DICO warrants the braking system so I am assuming they were made by DICO. Never heard of them.

@TrentW Is there anything printed or stamped into the front of the hub?

Also if there is someplace I can send you a picture of the wheel cylinder maybe you can find something that can work.

@TrentW I took a look at the photos (thanks for them!) and the closest cylinder I can find is the part # T1718500 but this is designed for 12" Dexter brakes. I also was unable to locate any replacement hubs that only have a 9" diameter. What I'm thinking will need to be done is for us to find what your bearings and grease seal part numbers are so we can replace and update your current setup so it uses more modern parts.
