Replacement AC for 1988 RV With Dometic AC

Question:
I have a 1988 RV rooftop original duo therm brisk air dometic AC 57912.009. I keep seeing interesting questions/comments/replies about this six pin plug n play … My question is, if you don’t have the six pin thingy… Can the wires be spliced? I’m not sure if I have one of those because I’m disabled and can’t get on the roof. My brother is also disabled, but he’s been able to get there once in a while. He’s never noticed the six pin thing or it simply isn’t there. My old control panel is a turn knob panel, which I prefer over digital push buttons. Also I keep seeing comments about purchasing a new hard start for the brand new unit. Does this mean that the new units do not have a new hard start in it? Thank you. Beth

Hi Beth; it is possible to make an AC work by splicing but we don't have specific instructions for that. We also don't recommend swapping out the Advent Air AC unit without a complete replacement. There have been a lot of compatibility issues, including burning up air distribution boxes (ADB), so a full replacement is recommended.
On top of that, the units you were looking at are no longer in production. Everything has switched to the new R32 refrigerant which requires a new ADB and thermostat. If you want to stick with a 13,500 Btu unit and manual control you can use the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner System - Manual - 13,500 Btu - White - R32 # ADV23SR for a replacement. This comes with a start capacitor/soft start since one is not built-in.
