Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 06/30/2025

Question:

Hi, My boat trailer shackles are hitting my frame. Can you help me fix this problem? I think I need new leafs, shackles, and equalizer. I can send a photo. Current leafs are 28 1/4 center of bolt to center of bolt. The triangle piece is 5.5 by 3.25. The shackles are 2.5.

Hey Kyle it sounds like your leaf springs are too long. How did you measure them to get 28-1/4" long? We recommend lifting up the side of your trailer and getting the weight off of the suspension then measuring the leaf springs from eye to eye. The older springs are the farther they stretch and this sounds like what you're dealing with.

I would need to know how long your springs are from eye to eye, the capacity of your axles, and the amount of leafs to recommend the correct replacement.

Additionally, you'll need to replace the shackle straps because they're only designed to be torqued down once. The MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers item # MR46ZR would be a great replacement option.

The closest replacement equalizer we have to yours are the Dexter E-Z Flex Suspension Kit item # K71-652-00.

You can add these measurements and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.

Hey Kyle, Did you manage to measure your leaf springs from eye to eye and find a solution for your trailer shackles hitting the frame? If you’re still looking for a solution, I’m happy to help.
