Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/27/2025

Question:

I want to flat tow a 2001 Ford ranger XLT 4x4. I have a 483-1 bracket already installed. 2 questions for now: 1 What towbar model is best for this application ? 2 what braking system is recommended for this vehicle. I am towing behind a class a motorhome. Thanks

Hey David, the Roadmaster Falcon 2 part # RM-520 would be a really good option that's well made and easy to use.

The easiest braking system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles. Do you have lighting?

Hey David, did you decide to go with the Roadmaster Falcon 2 tow bar and the Blue Ox Patriot braking system for your Ford Ranger? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could help others considering a similar setup.
