Hello Jacob, thanks for reaching out. There are a lot of different locks that can work with the Demco Ez-latch coupler. To be honest, any lock can be defeated, it is just a matter of how difficult the lock would be to defeat.

A really good all-around coupler lock is the BulletProof Hitches Extreme Duty Coupler Lock # BPH96VR. This uses an extra thick 1" shackle which is going to be harder to defeat compared to other locks of the style. These can work well as a theft deterrent and would probably take an angle grinder or saws-all to remove. This would be the case for virtually any coupler lock though so I try not to go too far down that rabbit hole, if you know what I mean. This kind of lock is very commonly used and they do their job fine.

If you want the absolute best lock money can buy, take a look at the Altor ICON Trailer Coupler Lock # AL86DQ. This is a fully cast surround-style lock that will work with any Demco coupler with a flat lip (if you have something else let me know). This really us the most robust, secure lock you can buy. The honeycomb design makes it impossible to kick off and next to impossible to cut off. You would have to separately cut off each fin just to expose the surround.

I am not sure if you are familiar with the lockpicking lawyer on youtube, but all he does is find ways to defeat locks. He got his hands on one of the Altor locks and gave it a glowing recommendation, which is saying something if you have seen his videos. He did end up "defeating" the lock, but he had to make a custom tool/key for it. So definitely not something your average trailer thief will have access to.

There was another youtuber I forget the name who was able to cut off the Altor lock. It took well over an hour and he went thru a whole big stack of saw blades.

So, if you want the absolute best security, or if you are storing your trailer in a location that is more prone to crime, the Altor lock is for you.

If you are not that worried about it, or just want to save money, a standard lock like the BulletProof # BPH96VR will work fine.

Hey Jacob, did you decide to go with the Altor lock or the BulletProof lock for your trailer? I'm curious to know how it's working out for you, as it could help others looking for a secure option.
