Recommended Gooseneck Ball for a 2025 GMC 2500 w/ the Factory Puck System

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/18/2025

Question:

I own a 2025 GMC 2500 AT4 with the OEM puck package. I am looking at purchasing a Brinkley Z 2680 with a Gen y executive gooseneck. I am really strruggling to understand what is going to work even after talking with Brinkley and one of your staff. I think I want a offset hitch to be sure I have adequate turning clearance, but my issue it that the bed height of my truck at the hitch is 37 inches and Brinkley says the maximum height for the Gen Y is 34 1/2. 3 1/2 inches without the bed to ball offset. The Gen Y hitch adds another 5 3/4 I believe and the Curt with the 4 offsett adds 7 1/4. I think in either cases its too much above level. using the Reese Elite pop-in is better, but now I worry about clearance. Help. Just need to find someone to tell me what works. Surely someone out there is towing a gooseneck equiped 5th wheel with a 2020-2025 GMC 2500 AT4. Thanks for your assistance. BTW, the trailer is used and already has the gooseneck and I dont really want to spend the money replacing it.

Hey John, congrats on the new truck. I recommend focusing on turning clearance over being level, especially since you're already 2-1/2" off. The first thing I would do is connect that trailer to your truck before purchasing it and seeing if you can make a turn with a standard gooseneck ball like the item # RP23FR you mentioned. It looks like a Brinkley Z 2680 has a pretty short front nose so you may not even need a gooseneck ball with offset like the item # GY73XR.

Additionally, you'll want to check the height of the trailer and kinpin compared to the top of your bed rails. 5"-6" of distance between the top of your bed rails and the bottom of the nose is recommended.

What year is the Brinkley Z 2680?

Hey John, did you have a chance to connect the trailer to your truck and check the turning clearance with the standard gooseneck ball? I'm asking because knowing how it worked out for you could really help others in a similar situation.
