How Can I Open My Tailgate While Using the Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack for 2 Bikes?

Hi etrailer, your videos were quite helpful in deciding which bike rack to get. Unfortunately I have a problem. When I lower the tailgate of my 2019 Ford Ranger, it makes contact with the dome thing that houses the hinge of the Thule T2 XTR. It’s only a slight angle but I certainly wouldn’t want to climb up on the tailgate while bike rack is installed. What should I do? I chose the Thule over the Kuat and Yakima competitors because of intuitive features wheels, cheaper than the other premium options. The ability to expand the rack to 4 bikes in the future. House kids bikes. Etc. Do you know of any original runner up that does clear the tailgate? Any ideas? Thank you in advance for any consideration or advice

Hello Matt,
I am sorry to hear you made a decision and things are not working out as you hoped.
In order to open the tailgate on your Ranger, I suggest getting the Swagman Swivel Hitch Extender - 2" Hitches - Dual Side - Swing-Away Hitch Adapter # S86SR. I really like how the Swagman can be installed to swing away either way, and when I was playing with all of the different swing aways we offer, this one just felt more sturdy and durable.
I looked through all the different bike racks that we have, and I do not see any of them fully tilting to be able to fully open your tailgate, and if you were to go with just a basic hitch extender it would cut your tongue weight in half, won't be able to carry 4 bikes with half the tongue weight.
Would love to know your thoughts about the swing away option.... would be a great added bonus for the rack on any future car you have too,
Do you have a specific trail you guys like to go to? We have the Katy Trail out here in Missouri and it is always loaded with bikes.
