Replacement Drive Head for RV Awning that Won't Stay Open
Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 05/25/2025 >
Question:
I have a 2017 Clipper Cadet with a Solera manual awning. When you try to open the awning it will not stay open, I think something is broken, as you pull it it just wants to roll back up. Would it be the Drive head, part LC272067 or the idler head, LC285147 need to be replaced, or both? How hard is it to replace these parts? Thank you for any input you have in this matter.

Hey Alan, that would indicate a problem with the awning drive head so you'd want to replace it with the part # LC272067. This is not a difficult install. When installing the Solera Manual Pull Style Awning Drive Head, Black # LC272067 you will want the spring to be under some tension when completing the installation so that it draws the awning back fully once you've completed the installation. My contact at Lippert mentioned you'll want to secure the awning arm before removing the head and un-fastening the screw that keeps it attached to the arm. You can then pull the awning out slightly, install the head and then fasten everything back up.
