Can I Use the Flair-It PEXLock Male Adapter Fitting on the Reinforced Flexible Vinyl Tubing?

Updated 04/24/2025 | Published 04/20/2025

Question:

Will this work for the reinforced flexible vinyl tubing that all RV manufacturers are installing with pex clamps? I have several water connections where the manufacturer used the reinforced vinyl tubing and secured them to pex fittings with pex pinch rings.

Hello Raul,

Thanks for reaching out! We do have connectors that will work for your setup, but I wouldn’t recommend using the Flair-It PEXLock Male Adapter Fitting – 1/2" Barb x 1/2" MPT # FL97ZR with flexible vinyl tubing. Flair-It fittings are specifically designed for use with PEX tubing, which has different characteristics than vinyl, things like flexibility, outer diameter, and how it handles pressure. Even reinforced vinyl tubing can compress differently under a PEX pinch ring, which could lead to leaks or an unreliable connection over time.

Instead, I’d suggest using the Valterra RV Plumbing Fitting – Male Adapter – 1/2" MPT x 1/2" Barb # RF841, and securing it with a hose clamp like the # H03-0002. That combo is better suited for vinyl tubing and should give you a much more reliable seal.

What are are you trying to repair or add?

When I didn't hear back from you right away I reached out to the Flair-It company. They have a photo of the Pexlock clamps holding reinforced vinyl tubing on their Pexlock fittings. I asked if anything extra is needed for the vinyl tubing as the Flair-It fittings require a bushing and a different nut to hold it in place. I was advised by Pexlock customer service that "the PEXLock Clamps will work as is. " for reinforced vinyl tubing with Pexlock fittings.
