Question:
Hello I am replacing 1 of the AC units on my RV. It is a Duo-Therm and it is telling me since they are out of business I am suppose to go to the Dometic penguin route. After picking enough ears I want to go the Furrion AC only unit. I have a duct system and there is no visibility of the unit from the inside. I really don’t care about the heat pump because it really isn’t a concern of mine. Is their a particular model I could use that is compatible with my old Thermostat style? 2006 Newmar Ventana Duo-Therm model 630515.331 Serial 61135655

Hello Edward,
Since you're replacing the Duo-Therm model 630515.331 A/C unit on your 2006 Newmar Ventana and already know that the brand has shifted over to Dometic, you're likely aware that the recommended replacement is the Penguin II. The great thing about going with the Penguin is that it’s fully compatible with your existing setup including the thermostat and control box, so as long as those components are still functioning, you won’t need to rewire or replace anything beyond the rooftop unit itself. Your original system likely used either the Dometic Comfort Control Center (CCC) or the newer CCC2 thermostat the great news is that both are compatible with the Penguin II.
Now, if you’re leaning toward switching to a Furrion unit (which is a great performer in its own right), you’ll just want to be aware that Furrion uses its own proprietary control box and thermostat. That means your current Duo-Therm thermostat won’t be compatible, and you’d need to install the Furrion rooftop unit along with their matching control box and wall thermostat. It’s a little more work, but if you're looking for a fresh setup and aren't concerned about keeping a heat pump, Furrion is a strong alternative, especially for cooling-only setups.
So, if you're after the easiest, most straightforward install, the Penguin II is the way to go. I’m not sure how your current setup is configured, so you’ll need to choose one of the following:
If you control more than one A/C from your thermostat, you will want the Dometic Penguin II High Capacity RV Air Conditioner w/ Heat Pump - Multi Zone - 15,000 Btu - White # DMC98ZR, or for Black # DMC58ZR.
If you do not want a heat pump: for White # DMC88ZR, or for Black # DMC78ZR.
If you have a different thermostat for each A/C, you will want Dometic Penguin II High Capacity RV Air Conditioner w/ Heat Pump - Single Zone - 15,000 Btu - White # DMC68ZR, or for Black # DMC33ZR.
If you do not want the heat pump: for White # DMC53ZR, or for Black # DMC28ZR.
If you decide to make the swap to a Furrion, it will require a complete new setup, as the Furrion system is not compatible with your current components. In that case, you would want Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner System - Single Zone - 15,000 Btu - Black - R32 # FR65TD, or for White # FR83TD. These are both single zone units, so you’ll be able to control just the one unit from the provided thermostat, along with your furnace.
So what are you thinking? That was a lot of information I just threw at you.

Hey Edward, did you decide to go with the Penguin II for an easier install, or did you opt for the Furrion setup despite the extra work? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could help others in a similar situation.
