Replacement Trailer Tire and Wheel for Size 5.7-8 with 65 mph Speed Rating

Updated 04/02/2025 | Published 03/30/2025

Question:

Hi, I have a homemade trailer with 18x5.7-8 tires. I am looking to replace them with a Load Range D tire suitable for highway speeds. What do you recommend? I was looking at the 215/60 but I think the section width may be too wide. Thanks

Hey Jonathan, the next size up from what you have now that's not overly big and wide would be the 165/65-8 like the part # AM3H200 that is mounted on a 4 lug wheel or the part # AM3H220 that is mounted on a 5 lug wheel. This is rated for up to 65 mph which is probably pretty close to what you have now but you'd need to check. We don't have a tire near this size that is going to have a higher speed rating though.

Worth mentioning is that there isn't a larger tire size that fits the rim width you have either.

Thank you for replying. I was incorrect on the size. They are actually 18.5x8.5-8. I am pretty sure that the 215/60-8 would be the size. Please confirm. Thanks

@JonathanB Yes, the 18.5 x 8.5 - 8 is the same thing as the size 215/60-8 which we have with part # AM1HP26 for just a tire.
