Upgrading to Larger Tires on Lowes 2x6 Utility Trailer

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/23/2025

Question:

Have 12 in. , 5 hole .4.5in tires on a Lowes 4x6 utility trailer. Have had the axle flipped. Do you have 13 in radials that might fit?

Hi Gary; since you flipped the axle on the trailer you probably have enough clearance but I would compare the larger tire to your current tires just to be sure. The Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" White Wheel # AM31985 can replace the 12" since the wheel has the same 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. This tire has an outer diameter of 24.1" and section width of 7" so compare that to whatever 12" tire you have. You need at least 3" on top and 2" on the inside for proper clearance.

Hey Gary, did the 13-inch Karrier radial tires end up fitting your Lowes 4x6 trailer after you checked the clearances? Knowing how the swap went could help others looking to move up from 12-inch wheels.
