Troubleshooting Issued With OEM Wiring One 2012 Chevy Silverado

Updated 03/24/2025 | Published 03/16/2025

Question:

Hello, I recently bought the 10 Silverado primarily to use as a car hauler for my old car. The only thing that works on the trailer wires is the left turn signal. Do you have a products that I could install to avoid the hassle of trying to figure out the OE wiring? Im ok with a wrench but me looking at a wiring diagram is like a monkey staring at hieroglyphics.

Hello Chance, thanks for reaching out. The only wiring we offer for the 2010 Silverado is designed to tee into the factory USCAR connector. So while these could be used on your truck, if there is an issue with the OE wiring, they would not resolve your issue. Even the universal wiring options would tie into the OE wiring.

You could try taking a wire tester and check the wires behind your 7-way. There is a chance the socket could just be old and corroded and needs to be replaced. In this case you could use part # HM40975.

If the OE wiring truly is bad, the best option would be to take the truck in and have it serviced. Troubleshooting OE wiring issues is difficult. Even if you have sound mechanical/electrical knowledge, that kind of thing is best diagnosed by a professional.

I know that probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but that will be the best option to get things working again.
