The easiest way to do this is with a kit we have put together. Part # ETBC7 includes everything you will need to install a 7-Way connector on your truck, provided your truck already has a 4-Way connector on it. If you do not have a 4-Way, you would also need part # C55317 if your 1992 Dodge truck is a full size truck or Dakota.
Once you have the 4-Way installed and functioning properly, you can start with Kit ETBC7. Mount the connector and plug your 4-Way into the 4-Way tail on ETBC7. Ground the white wire with the eye ring terminal to the truck frame. Run the black wire up to the battery with the 40 amp breaker in-line. This provides power to your trailer lights or battery. Run the blue wire up to the out put wire on the brake controller. You can use the included duplex wire to do this. The purple wire is optional, but it is for reverse lights. If you do not have reverse lights on your trailer, this can be omitted. The other breakers are for your brake controller. Depending on the brake controller, you will use the 20 or 30 amp breaker on the power input wire to prevent the brake controller from drawing too much current.
At the bottom of the ETBC7 product page, there is a quick reference wiring diagram that may help you in installation. I have also linked you to an FAQ article that shows in detail how to install the kit.
