Is The Andersen Ultimate AN67VR More Durable Than The First Or Second Gen Models?

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/18/2025

Question:

Several years ago, I remember seeing photos of the aluminum version of the Ultimate 5th wheel Connection that looked like it had been squashed like a beer can. Is this the same version, or is it an upgraded model?

Hey Randy, thanks for reaching out. The Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch System # AN67VR you see on our site is the 3rd generation of this hitch. It sounds like you are referring to the older first gen or second gen Andersen hitches which admittedly did have a lot of issues. The ones that were getting "squashed" were mostly the first gen.

The 3rd gen has structural upgrades that help with the stability and durability. There are extra supports welded to the sides, and the gooseneck ball connection point is way more beefy. These 3rd gen have been around for almost 2 years or so, and we have not seen or heard of any instances of them failing.

It does have a 24K rating. To be realistic, it is made of aluminum. It will work good for trailers around 12K-15K GVWR but I would be hesitant to use it for anything heavier than that. Most 5th wheels aren't going to weight that much anyway unless it is a beast like triple axle toy haulers.

Hey Randy, how did things turn out with the 3rd gen Andersen Ultimate Connection hitch? I'm curious if the added supports and stronger gooseneck ball gave you the stability you were looking for. Your feedback could help others comparing the older and newer versions.
