Does Optronics Clearance Light A91RB with Base A91BOB Have Clearance for 90 Degree Mount

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 02/17/2025

Question:

I have a 2013 Sundowner horse trailer, model 2H BP Sportman. I need to replace several of its marker lights. The original lights are two-wire Optronics thin line 1-3/16 in. X 2-1/2 in.. It appears that they are no longer available, which means that I may need to use a light that has a pigtail. The trailers electrical system has a ground wire it does not use the chassis as a ground. My question is one of clearance. Does the A91RB light with an A91BOB mounting base allow sufficient clearance for a right angle pigtail to fit within it? The trailers marker lights surface mount, and there is only a small hole - just large enough for a rubber grommet to allow the wires to pass through. I do not want to cut into the aluminum structure of the trailer. I will appreciate your help with this issue. Many thanks.

Hey Jim, yes the Mounting Bracket # A91BOB with the clearance light part # A91RB would allow a right angle pigtail like the part # A46PB to fit and have enough clearance.

Hey Jim, how did the A91RB light and A91BOB bracket work out on your Sundowner trailer? Did the right angle pigtail fit cleanly without needing to open up the wiring hole? Your results could really help others working with similar clearance limits.

@JamesonC Hi, Jameson. Unfortunately, it did not work as we had hoped. The pigtail connectors project beyond the base of the light and are significantly larger than the factory hole for wiring, which is only large enough to accommodate the passage of two wires. In some places, such as on a fender, the hole can be enlarged without difficulty. In others, though, specifically ones in the aluminum frame extrusions, enlarging the hole is not practical. I did obtain replacement lights from Sundowner. They fit, but they do not match the originals. That would be OK, except they are are not nearly as bright. I still hope to locate some marker lights that are as bright as the original ones and that will mount without requiring modification of the trailer framing. Thanks for checking back with me. I greatly appreciate your support. Jim B.
