Question:
Hello- we have a 2013 F150 crew cab, regular length bed truck, 3.5 ecoboost - we bought used but has a hook up for trailer and trailer brake so we assume at least basic tow package . We have a 2021 2109S Rockwood Microlite travel trailer. We are so confused on what hitch system. We looked at Reese strait line but think that is too complicated for us plus having to have holes drillled in truck bumper . What is another system to help us have a good towing experience - we are new travel trailer owners. Tongue weight seems to be around 570 lbs UVW of trailer is 4495. Is this enough information to help us figure this out ? Thanks !

Hey Sheila! I can definitely help you find a good system based on that information. The tongue weight of the trailer is key here. Looking up the specs for the 2021 Rockwood Micro Lite 2109S I can see that the dry weight is 4,171 lbs, dry tongue weight is 412 lbs, and the GVWR is 5,692 lbs. If you add on a couple batteries and propane tanks to the tongue of the trailer 570 lbs sounds about right.
Tongue weight is typically 10-15% of the trailer weight. At 15% of 5,692 lbs you're looking at 854 lbs max. Based on this information I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37100ET. This system works with a tongue weight of 600-1,000 lbs so you're covered when the trailer is empty as well as loaded and ready to go.
Equal-i-zer makes a great, reliable system, and is widely considered to be the best. This weight distribution hitch uses L-brackets that bolt on so no drilling is required. It has 4-points of sway control and is made in the USA. You will also need a 1-7/8" thin walled socket like # ALL643216 for hitch ball installation.
