Why Would New Trailer Brake Assemblies Feel Weak

Question:
Bought new complete break assembly for 6k axles. They are installed on the proper sides. They are adjusted up to where I can barely turn them with decent force when jacked up. All breaks are working but way too weak. Break control maxed out only has minimal effect. I hooked a truck battery directly to one wheel to eliminate any ground or wiring or controller issues. No improvement. If I adjust them tighter i fear they will get hot even when im not engaging the breaks. The breaks worked great when trailer was new several years ago. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Hey Nate, did the brakes ever get grease on them from a blown seal? I know they are new assemblies but if the drums had this happen with them and they weren't also replaced this could be why. A weak ground would cause this problem as well. Did you check all of the wiring that runs from the assemblies back to the main ground of the trailer.
Did you rewire the assemblies with a thinner gauge wire by chance? You need to have used 10 gauge wire like the part # 10-1-1 that we sell so that the needed amperage will get to the assemblies.
Did you burnish in the new assemblies to your drums?
