Question:
How exactly does this hitch not fit the hatchback model if the frames and such on both vehicles are identical to each other?

Hi Connor; it looks like all of the hatchback models have dual exhaust which is why the # 306-X7303 and other hitches for the sedan won't fit. This isn't uncommon on vehicles like the Mazda 3. Even if the exhaust allowed for it, sometimes there are enough differences in the body/bumper that you can't mount the hitch without butchering the fascia meaning a different design is required. I'm assuming you have the 2014 Mazda 3 Hatchback so you need the # 306-X7305 instead.
