Should Dutton-Lainson Jack Allow Boat and Trailer To Move Around on Smooth and Level Concrete

Published 11/14/2024

Question:

I have one of these on the front of my pontoon boat trailer. I bought it slightly used. Should I be able to move it around with the boat on the trailer on perfectly level and smooth concrete? I think mine may be bent because it doesn’t budge.

Hi Kyle; under those conditions I would expect you to be able to move the boat and trailer around using the # DL22339. However, if your boat is excessively heavy it may not perform as well. I doubt you're pushing the limits of its capacity but if you are that would explain it. I would also consider if you're trying to make a sharp turn or pull straight ahead. The single wheel can be a real pain if you're trying to take it into a turn from a dead stop with a lot of weight on it.

What I would do is see how well it moves the next time you launch since the boat weight won't be on there. If it is struggling with just the weight of the trailer something may be bent as you said. When you're hooked up you can also swivel it to the side and make sure everything moves freely.
