Does Damaged Nut Used to Install Brake Assemblies Cause Concern If Replaced

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/14/2024

Question:

Hi! I have bought Dexter Nev-r-adjust electric drum brakes for 3500 lbs axle. These have 4 installation bolts welded in them. When I was installing, I applied too much torque to one of nuts on these bolts, and *the nut* had its thread partially sheared off. It was a nut supplied with the brake. Fortunately I was able to remove the nut easily and put a replacement nut on. I torqued the replacement nut to recommended torque no problems. Im worried about the welded in bolt. Could it have been damaged too, and shall I worry about it if I put a replacement nut on and torqued it to spec?

Hey Timofei, I think you are fine. If you got the new nut to torque as well as the rest of the nuts on the studs of the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust assemblies part # 23-468-469 then you are totally fine.

Hey Timofei, how did things turn out with the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust brakes after you replaced that nut and torqued it to spec? It’d be great to know if everything stayed tight and performed well on your axle. Your update could make it easier for others who run into the same issue.
