Understanding How Door Switch and Override Switches work for Kwikee RV Steps

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 10/04/2024

Question:

Working on kwikee rv steps and saw one of your previous posts. Let me see if I understand, the red wire provides power to the controller then motor. The brown wire provides a ground thru the magnetic door switch, completing the circuit. when the door is closed, the contact is made and holds the step retracted. When the door is opened, the magnetic switch breaks the circuit and the steps extend. When the white wire override rocker switch is activated, it holds the steps in the extended position regardless if the door is open or closed. If the steps are accidently left extended and the camper engine is started, the yellow wire will provide power to retract the steps. Can you advise if this is correct? Thanks Don

Hey Donald, yes that is all correct! It's an interesting system how it all works together but it does work just like that.

Hey Donald, did everything work as expected with your Kwikee steps after confirming the wiring setup? Your update could make it easier for others trying to understand how the control unit functions.
