How to Remove Stuck Hitch Bolt W/ Headless Bolt
Updated 08/20/2024 | Published 08/14/2024 >
Question:
In preparation for actual bolt tightening i cleaned the frame nuts and ran all 6 bolts down to minimize difficulty when actually bolting in. All but ran down with some effort, except for the single vertical drivers side bolt. The weld holding the nut captive snapped with the bolt about 1/4 of the way in. Now the bolt wont come out. Do you have recommended solution?

That's no bueno Al, but I feel like we've all been there. What you can do if you have some tools laying around is, drill out the bolt with a smaller left handed bit and then put an extracting bit into the hole you just drilled and rotate it counter-clockwise until it unscrews.
If that doesn't work, then you could drill out the hole entirely and re-bore it with new threads.

No, the nut inside the frame came loose from whatever tack weld WAS holding it. It came loose when I was trying to run the bolts down to make sure I wouldn't run into a problem when actually bolting the hitch on.Now the bolt is halfway into the loose nut inside the frame and thus I am unable to remove it. I can't put the hitch up now with that bolt stuck there
