Can I Use the Viking Solutions Rack Jack II Hoist to Lift a Kayak?

Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 08/05/2024

Question:

I have a 10foot kayak that I need to put on the roof of my car. will this work? Will the kayak be balanced with the one cable? I have two straps I can use but they would both be strapped to the one cable, the kayak weighs 60 lbs. The car is 75inch high

That's an outside of the box idea Terrie but I don't think it's going to work. The Viking Solutions Rack Jack II Hoist w/ Winch item # 310-VRJ001 has a 300 lbs capacity, however it's used for generators and game like deer. The length of your kayak is going to be the issue. If you mount the cable in the middle you'll hit the upright. If you mount the cable on one side the kayak won't get off the ground on the other.

A better option is going to be the Rhino-Rack T-Load Hitch Mounted Load Assist and Support Bar for 2" Hitches item # RTL002. It will also attach to your 2" hitch and provide you with a tilting support bar to get your kayak up on the roof of your Lexus.

I have linked a review video we made below so you can see the features of this load assist demonstrated.

Hey Terrie, how did things go with the Rhino-Rack T-Load for getting your kayak onto the roof of your Lexus? Your update could make it easier for the next person trying to lift a longer kayak on their own.
