Does Furrion 50 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch Require Power on Both Legs to Switch
Question:
My 2015 Grand Design fifth wheel is wired 50amps on two 120v legs. I can run a reduced load to 5amps to 14amps with occasional surges to 20amps on one of the 120v legs. My backup power supply is a battery with an inverter EcoFlow Delta Pro capable of producing enough power for a 30amp 120v load through a NEMA 30TTR. The Delta Pro inverter has an option to pass thru 15amps 120v with a 20amp circuit breaker to protect the inverter. The inverter has handled my load conditions using the pass thru on several multi hour trials, however without much of a load cushion. I would like to add an ATS so that I can run the normal 50 amp service, reduce the load, connect the Delta Pro and go on a hike without worrying about a power failure. Can I use this switch or does it require power on both legs to switch?

Hi Leen,
The Furrion Automatic Transfer Switch - 50 Amp # F50ATS does indeed require power on both legs to switch. It needs service to both the legs to sense and then switch over, and this is going to be true of each transfer switch.
