Question:
Tech support question: I have a CURT 55370 wiring harness I got from you some years back installed in a 2001 Subaru Outback wagon. Its been fine until about a month ago. Since then, when I plug a trailer in, the trailer tail lights are on all the time, even when the vehicle tail lights are off. The brake/turn lights still work OK. Ive removed and reinstalled the unit, no change. I have several trailers, they all do this, its not specific to one trailer. Is the unit simply defective now, or is there some way to fix this problem? thanks

Thanks for reaching out about the Curt Wiring Kit # C55370 on your 2001 Subaru Outback Wagon, John!
This wiring kit has the older module version from Curt so if you've had it installed for a number of years I'm pretty confident the module has gone bad and is causing the lights to be on all the time. You've done a great job at narrowing this down with the troubleshooting steps you've already taken.
I recommend replacing the Curt with the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118461 which has a much better module on it. This installs in the same manner so the swap will be pretty easy to make.

Thanks - that's what I figured. I will look into getting the Tekonsha unit instead of replacing with the same Curt unit.
