I double checked with the Thule Fit Guides and the Passage, # TH910XT, will fit your son's 2002 Saturn Vue. The Passage offers the patented Fit Dial adjustment system to ensure the proper fit on your Vue.

I am including a couple installation notes that Thule has provided. The dial setting for your 2002 Saturn Vue is 11. You will need to place the top clips in the gap at the front edge of the top of the hatch and set the lower clip/hooks into frame holes in chassis behind bumper. The lower arm of carrier should be positioned on upper tier of bumper. Just a reminder, the rear wiper can not be used when carrier is mounted.

If he will be carrying any women's, children's or alternative frame bikes, I recommend picking up the Thule Bike Adapter Bar, # TH982XT. Bikes with small or angled frames can be difficult to load on hanging style bike racks and they can cause ground clearance issues. This adapter will allow you to load the bikes easily and safely. I have also attached a demonstration video of this adapter bar for you.
