Troubleshooting Trailer Lights Not Working w/ Headlights On With Curt C89CR Installed On '22 Venue

Question:
Hi! I have wiring harness C89CR hooked up on my 2022 Hyundai Venue, and am having issues connecting to my trailer. Trailer side, I have another 4 flat connector 1200481015 wired up to two LED lights. I had to splice the ground and running lights to get a wire to go to each side. Now, it appears the lights are drawing too much current from my car. With no headlights on, trailer blinkers work as theyre supposed to. With headlights on, or with the brakes engaged, the running lights do NOT come on, or do so EXTREMELY dimly, and turn signals no longer work. I have thoroughly checked and redone all wiring, replaced lights with new LEDs, checked connections, etc trailer side, and there is absolutely no chance anything is shorting. Im at a loss of where to go from here to get the lights working appropriately. Wires from the connector back to the lights are only about 10 ft long, and the wires requiring splicing are on the end of the wire nearest the LEDs. Any prompt advice would be deeply appreciated, and Im happy to answer any clarifying questions that would help!

Hey Joe, sorry to hear about the issues you're running into!
The Curt # C89CR you installed on your '22 Venue is rated for 3amps for the right turn and brake, and 3 amps for the left turn and brake, along with 6 amps for the running light circuit. Based on the LED you mentioned you installed, you're no where near having too much load for your vehicle wiring.
Did you ground each light directly to the frame? The issue you are describing is a classic ground issue. I'd double check that each light is grounded directly to the frame with a self tapping screw, and that you use a self tapping screw to ground the ground of the trailer side 4-way to the frame as well.

I figured out the issue prior to receiving this response, but it was a grounding problem! I had grounded on a painted screw in my car, everything worked perfect as soon as I moved that ground.
