What is Width of Awning Measured From

Updated 02/17/2026 | Published 06/14/2024

Question:

Hi! What part of the awning do we measure? We have a 2009 Winnebago Era Sprinter that the awning gears are slipping on. Does anyone sell replacement parts? Replacing the whole unit is going to be a stretch for us. The TH64WJ seems likely if we have to replace ours, but, measuring the case it rolls out of, we’re getting about 11’4”. Thanks in advance!

Hello Valerie,

The width of awnings like the Thule HideAway Awning # TH64WJ you mentioned is the width of the rail the fabric is attached to. So the 12' 3" wide dimension is how long that rail is, with the fabric being just a touch narrower than that.

As for replacement parts, I'm not sure as I don't know what awning you have specifically, though for older awnings it's pretty you'll find things like gears as most parts are just replacement caps and the like.

Hey Valerie, were you able to figure out the correct width for your Winnebago Era awning? Knowing what you found could help others trying to match their awning size or locate replacement parts. Your update could make it easier for the next person with the same issue.
