Adding a Solar Panel Kit to a Pre-Wired 2023 Jayco Melbourne

Question:

I am thinking of changing my house batteries in My 2023 Jayco Melbourne from Lead Acid to Lithium. I have a few questions ? Will my converter charge the Lithium Battery too 14.6 volts ? will I need to protect my alternator from over heating and burning out ? What do I need to add Solar panels to the roof of my RV ? Controler ? They say it is set up for solar but dont have any info on the install.

The best way to determine if your converter can handle lithium batteries is to check the specs on it. I unfortunately don't know what came on your 2023 Jayco Melbourne, but if you aren't able to figure the compatibility out, just let me know the model of converter you have and I can see if it's something we would know (provided we carry that converter).

If your powering equipment is rated for lithium batteries then your alternator will be just fine.

When it comes to solar panels, it's best to get a whole kit like the Go Power Solar Flex Charging System with MPPT Solar Controller # 34275012 which comes with the controller and all of the wiring. If your Jayco is setup for a portable solar panel system then you'll be looking at something like the Go Power # 34282610 which plugs into that port and comes with a controller as well.
