Troubleshooting Prodigy P3 Trailer Not Connected Error When Hooked to Trailer With 2015 Tundra
Updated 04/15/2024 | Published 04/14/2024 >
Question:
So I have a 2015 tundra. I got a p3 brake control and the wiring harness for it so I can plug and play. Got it all hooked up and grounded where it said to ground it. Hook the truck to a brand new trailer. It is telling me that there is no trailer hooked up. What could be causing this? It is like the p3 isn’t communicating with the truck or vise vs.

With the plug and play installation and your ground wire set it is unlikely the controller or what you did during installation is the problem. Then again, it wouldn't hurt to unplug the wiring harness and plug it back in to make sure it is properly seated. After that, I would check my trailer connectors.
If the vehicle or trailer side connector has some corrosion or damage this could cause the error on the # 90195. Go ahead and inspect them and clean as necessary. If that doesn't fix it it could also be a short in your brake output wire on the vehicle or trailer side or a bad ground on one of your brake magnets. New trailers can have plenty of problems so I wouldn't rule out the trailer as the issue.
If possible, I would try to hook it up to another trailer to see if you have the same problem which can help narrow it down.
