Question:

Will the rack straps that come over the roof extension on my 2022 Honda HR-V ruin that extension either break it or rub the paint off of it with the weight of loaded bikes?

Hello Kevin. The straps on the Saris Bones EX 2 # SAR83FR will be just fine if they make contact with the roof extension on your 2022 Honda HR-V. The straps are anchored to the hatch, so most of the strain will be there instead of the roof extension. Even with the loaded weight of the bikes you will not be in danger of breaking anything. Saris actually shows an example in their instruction of this rack on a car with a similar roof extension which you can see below.

The straps are designed to be gentle on your cars pain/finish. That said, any parts that make contact with the vehicle have the potential to scratch or scuff the paint. If you want to protect the car you can always add a protector sleeve like part # EM06305. This sleeve is made of a polyester faux sheepskin which will not scratch or scuff anything.
