Curt A20 Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch or Convert-A-Ball Adapter For Height

Question:

I have a 2022 Chevrolet short bed 6 1-2’ and the bed side is 21 1/2” tall. I was using a Husky EZ roller but it only adjusts to 18 1/2” and the king pin adjustment to it highest it still set down on the bed of the truck. Looking at the Curt A20 w/S20 slider it adjusts to 21 1/2”. Or converting to Convert a ball fifth wheel to gooseneck with the offset and poly cushion. With the Curt spyder gooseneck hitch. The truck already has the rails in the bed. So, just asking if it’s better to stay fifth wheel or go to gooseneck?

Hi Tony; that's a good question and unequivocally the better option is the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S20 Slider # C55DR.

This will not only give you extra height, but won't void the warranty on your trailer frame like the Convert-A-Ball adapter does, gives you better turning clearance, and is just a more secure overall set up than what is essentially two different adapters.

The # C55DR is also just a really good hitch overall with a superb interlocking jaw system for a tight fit around the king pin, color indicators that let you know if the jaws on the hitch are ready to couple, uncouple or tow, and built-in zerk fittings so you can easily lube the hitch.
