Brake Controller Install on 2007 Sierra Causing Mirror Display and Interior Lights to Malfunction
Question:
Just had a electric brake controller installed on 2007 gmc sierra, after installation my outside temp on the rear view mirror quit working, vanity lights dont work, and map lights are not working either. what would cause this?

My best guess is that during the installation, something under the dash was inadvertently dislodged. The tow package wiring and the interior lamp and power mirror temperature display circuits are not related in any way, so either something was accidentally unplugged or the malfunctions you mentioned are merely coincidental.
Just to make absolutely sure I hadn't missed anything, I checked with my contact at Tekonsha. He could think of no possible way a brake controller installation could cause the problems you mentioned.
I'd recommend reviewing the installation, and checking the connections under the dash. Make sure the brake controller is connected to the correct tow package wires. The tow package harness is a bundle of wires to the left of the brake pedal. The wires should have a white tag on them. The red tow package wire should be connected to the black brake controller wire, the blue tow package wire connects to the blue brake controller wire, the light blue or orange tow package wire connects to the red brake controller wire and the white tow package wire connects to the white controller wire.
