Question:

Hi there. I have a question about one of your firestone compressors. Part number is 2135829377 Does this compressor have a built in thermal protection cut off to stop it over heating? Kind regards Thanks Tom sanders

Hello. I wasn't able to find anything using that part number on our website or Firestones but it probably doesn't have built in thermal protection. Firestone Compressors like item # F99VV use a duty cycle that shuts the air compressor off to prevent it from heating up and causing damage.

Hi Jerred Thanks for your reply. Oh that's odd you couldn't find it? What about number 9377? That number comes up as the same compressor on Google. Says it has built in thermal protection which is what I am trying to find out? What do you mean by duty cycle and cuts off air? Would it cut out and shut the compressor off then to stop it from heating up even if it hadn't built the system up to pressure yet? Thanks Tom

@TomS No problem! Yeah nothing on our website or Firestones for a 9377 compressor. It must be an older obsolete model. A duty cycle refers to how frequently an air compressor can be run over a certain period of time. For example, if an air compressor has a 100% duty cycle, that means it can run continuously without needing to rest and cool down. Most standard compressors have a duty cycle between 30-100%. This means they turn off after running for 30-100% of the time, allowing the motor to cool back down before being used again. So yes it will definitely cut off before the compressor has completely filled whatever you're airing up. This could be what is being referenced as being thermal protection because it does kick off before the compressor overheats. The Firestone item # F99VV I mentioned earlier has a 30% duty cycle.

@JerredH Thanks Jerred for clearing this up it's much appreciated and very helpful! Just for my knowledge how long in time is 30% running time before it switches off to cool down to start back up again? Thanks Tom
