can an after market Prodigy brake controler fit and work properly?

Ford had some issues with the OE brake controller on the 2005-6 Super Duty trucks. Bypassing the OE controller and installing an aftermarket model like the # 90885 Tekonsha Prodigy is a common procedure. We actually have a help article that addresses this, to see it click the provided link.

The aftermarket controller would install under the dash, and you'd simply leave the OEM unit in place, so you won't have a hole in your dash. The aftermarket controller would use the # 3065-P wiring adapter, or the factory pigtail that should have been sitting in the glove box when you purchased the truck can be used. An aftermarket controller is not designed to fit in the dash location previously occupied by the OEM controller. I suppose it could be made to fit somehow, but there would be quite a bit of fabrication involved.

Once the OE controller is unplugged and the aftermarket unit is installed, there will probably be an error code shown on the message center on the dash. Your Ford dealer can remove the code very easily.
