Out of everything available for the 2024 Ram 1500 6.5' bed, the best option is the Yakima OverHaul HD # Y01151-59. There are a few reasons that we recommend this one specifically. First, is uses a 78" long heavy-duty crossbar. So you will have plenty of room for lumber and/or a couple of kayaks. The on-road weight capacity is 500 lbs, which will allow you to haul basically whatever you want - from lumber and kayaks to full size cargo box, or even a roof top tent.

One cool thing about the Yakima OverHaul HD # Y01151-59 is that the uprights are adjustable in height. Full height is 30" or just above the cab. They can be lowered to 19" to help match your gear carrying needs.

Another thing I like is all of the built in tie down points. There are tie-down points on the uprights, as well as at the end caps of the crossbars, you can also add additional tie-downs such as the Load Stops # Y01161 or Eye Bolts # Y01162. Since you plan to carry lumber, the load stops will come in very handy. They can be used to secure a kayak as well.

To secure your kayaks, I recommend using the Yakima Crossbar Pads # Y07413, along with my personal favorite tie down kit, the etrailer Kayak Tie-Down Kit # e36ZR. This will allow you to simply lay the kayak directly on the crossbar. The tie down kit will include anchors, as well as straps for each crossbar as well as the bow and stern. With this setup, you will be able to safely say "yep, that's not going anywhere".

It is worth mentioning that Yakima makes a Tonneau Cover Adapter Kit # Y01155 for the overhaul HD ladder rack. So if you decide to add a truck bed cover in the future, the adapter kit will allow you to add a Retrax XR or Pace Edwards UltraGroove tonneau cover.
