Question:

I am building a custom trailer with the rear ramp door being 7 foot tall and 66inch wide. I am expecting it to be heavy, so I was/am looking at the ERS160D96 due to its weight capacity. I am wondering what is the minimum width this model will work with? I also looked at the 81inch wide spring but the weight capacity is only 120#s.

As you mentioned, we do offer the Enclosed Trailer Ramp Spring - 81 Inch Wide, # ERS120D81. This ramp spring needs a minimum of 56 inches in order for the drums and cables to wind properly. With your rear ramp door being 66 inches wide, this ramp spring would work for your trailer. The weight capacity is 120 pounds.

I pulled the Enclosed Trailer Ramp Spring - 96 Inch, # CB250D96SHD, from our warehouse and also spoke with my contact at M-3 to see if there was any way that this would work on your trailer. She and I went though the dimensions and the minimum opening for that ramp spring would be 69 inches. With a 66 inch opening on your trailer, this would not work due to the opening being too small. The minimum length of this system's bar is 80 inches.
