Question:
I have a 2016 Mercedes Bennz that does not have a tow package. I would like to know what all equipment I need to be able to pull an enclosed trailer. I am thinking I need a 6x12 trailer, but would like to know what the maximum size is that this vehicle can tow.

To add a hitch to your 2016 Mercedes-Benz Metris, I recommend the Curt item # C13276. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Metris with included hardware. It is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver, that has a 6,000 lbs towing capacity and a 900 lbs maximum tongue weight. It looks like without the towing package your Metris tops out at 5,000 lbs. I highly recommend verifying this information with your owner's manual.
I have linked an installation video below to help you get it set up.
To pull a trailer without brakes you will also need a wiring harness item # 119250KIT and a ball mount kit item # C45534. This wiring harness will provide you with a 4-flat connector that will operate your trailer's lights.
If you are pulling a trailer with brakes you will need the first wiring harness and the the Universal Installation Kit item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.
To control the trailer's brakes, you will also need a brake controller. I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR and Wiring Adapter item # RED69FR. This is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer's brakes when your Metris decelerates. The reason I recommend the Tow-Pro Liberty is because of its unique installation method where the only visible portion is the control knob that's about the size of a nickel. The main unit is hidden away inside your dash to be completely out of the way and out of sight.
