Question:
Ive got a existing 4 wire flat plug coming from my vehicle, and the number on theat connector is, 17778. It is 13/4 wide, 3/4 high, and 7/8 deep. This connector oushes in to a bracket on my hitch. Where I have read most connections for vehicles come out of the rear passenger tail light, but mine comes out of the drivers rear connector. ive got a 2000 Jeep Wrangler X. I would like to replace this connector with a new one or replace it completely. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

To replace the 4 flat plug on your 2000 Jeep Wrangler X we recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # 42615. This is a standard T-harness that will plug in to the connector on the rear passenger side .You can mount the plug using the existing bracket. I was not able to find any references for the part number 17778 that you provided, but this Hopkins harness should be virtually identical based on what you are describing. It will be a very simple plug-and-play install.
