Can Tow Dollied Vehicle Have Taillights Activate with Tow Dolly Lights

Updated 08/02/2023 | Published 08/01/2023

Question:

I have a 2015 Fusion SE Hybrid that I tow on a tow dolly because of the much higher cost to flat-tow. My issue is that I would like to use the car’s rear LED lights when towing rather than adding magnetic lights on the trunk. Is it possible to back-feed power to the car’s taillights without damaging the car’s lighting system, possibly using parts of the C56351 kit? I already have a Y-splitter to connect wiring to the motorhome’s hitch for the dolly and am prepared to run wiring through the car to connect at the front, if this is possible.

We do have a way to pull off what you are looking for. What you would want is a diode wiring kit like the part # RM-154 which installs on your 2015 Ford Fusion taillight wiring. Then you'd cut off one end of the 4-way extension harness and tie it into your current trailer wiring that goes to your tow dolly and you'd be set.

There isn't a way to use trailer wiring in reverse like with the Curt kit you mentioned.
