Would Replacement Motor Eliminate Noise In Atwood Landing Gear On 2005 Travel Supreme Trailer
Updated 02/21/2014 | Published 02/20/2014 >
Question:
The mfg. is Atwood I had a problem with the landers on my 2005 Travel Supreme TSO. The gears were skipping so I dug in and found that the 12 tooth gear retaining pin had slipped out about half way causing the gear to wear in an odd fashion. After replacement found the clicking noise continued. Purchased a gear box. The one I removed was sloppy so I went ahead with the replacement. The clicking noise is still present. The last item I can replace is the motor. It appears their is a gear reduction or clutch attached to the motor. I am satisfied with the money spent on the gear and gear box. I would rather change everything than have a problem later. Do you think the motor would eliminate the clicking? Is their another mfg. I can use and save money? Quality is my key requirement.

If you have replaced the pin and the gear box on your landing gear, it seems there are only a couple of components you have not addressed. Unfortunately, we would not be able to say for certain that replacing the motor would take care of the clicking sound you are hearing. Are you sure the sound is coming from the main gear or could it be coming from the follower? Or could it possibly be coming from the screw that is inside the landing gear leg itself as it raises or lowers? Without seeing the system it would be difficult to say where the noise is coming from.
You can replace the motor on the landing gear but there would be no guarantee it would eliminate the clicking sound.
Another option would be to replace the entire system you have. If you choose that option, I recommend the Stromberg Carlson Electric Landing Gear, part # LG-1. This would allow you to use your existing Atwood mounting hardware.
