Question:
I have a 2020 CX-5. What is the purpose of the small trim piece that needs to removed? Is it protecting the car from rust? Is there any way to replace it?

Expert Reply:
The small piece of trim that gets removed to install the etrailer Hitch item # e98902 is there for aerodynamic purposes. It has to come out to install the hitch which fills that gap in your undercarriage so you won't need to replace it. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Mazda with included hardware.
I have linked an installation video below.
If you are planning on towing you will also need a wiring harness item # C56377 and a ball mount kit item # C45534.
