What Would Cause Trailer Brakes To Be Jerky On a 2011 Keystone Outback 295RE?
Published 04/07/2023 >
Question:
I own a 2011 Fleetwood Outback 295-RE with two wheels on each side. Im having problems when braking with a constant jerking motion. Ive replaced my Tekonsha® Primus® IQ, Proportional Brake Controller with a Tekonsha® Prodigy P3® Proportional Brake Controller to see if that would solve the issue no change. So I went back to my original controller, the Primus® IQ, Proportional Brake Controller. Still jerking as would be expected. What would be causing this issue and what would you recommend to correct this problem? Thanks for any help.

It sounds like the issue may be with your brakes on your 2011 Keystone Outback 295-RE. With the brakes jerking it is most likely an issue with a drum or multiple drums being out of round. This can sometimes be caused by the brakes overheating. You can have your brakes inspected at a trailer service shop where them may be able to also turn the drums to get them back to within spec. Otherwise you will most likely need to replace your brakes. If you can provide me with the axle information tags on your Outback I will be able to verify which replacement parts you will need since it appears you will have 4,400lb axles and they do not always use a standard size brake.
