Recommendations for Charging Small Trailer Battery with DC and AC power

Updated 04/07/2023 | Published 04/06/2023

Question:

I have an enclosed trailer with a small battery to run an interior light. My truck has two large batteries, diesel. Truck also has a simple solenoid to isolate the truck/trailer. What I am looking for is an trailer side on-board charger/tender that will take the 12V from the truck and not over charge the trailer battery. And allow shore power charging.

I have two components that will work together to do what you're hoping, but there isn't an all in one option that pulls power from your truck and also plugs into shore power.

For the DC I recommend the BC-DC Charger # RED96FR which is good for a battery less than 75 amp hours like it sounds yours is. This will tie into the 12v power from your truck and keep your battery completely charged while not overcharging. You'll also need two # RED76FR and some wire you'll need to pick up locally to complete the install.

For the shore power side I recommend the # NOC44FR and the AC Port # 329-GCP1.
